I'm in the middle of sewing up a second pair of StyleArc Cassie Pants. I've raised the waistline and brought in the waist as well. I was about to sew up the final side seam on the second leg, when I realised I won't be able to pull the waist above my hips!
All I can think to do, is to put an invisible zip in the side seam. With only a quarter inch seam allowance, I don't know if it will work.
Any ideas or advice?
Oh, that is a bummer. can you sew an extra strip of fabric at the seams where you would sew the zipper? Perhaps of another (thin) fabric. So you have just enough more fabric to sew the zipper to without showing it on the right side.
ReplyDeleteDo you have a contrast fabric that you can use to put "stripes" in the side seams with? They wouldn't have to be very wide, and that would give you some room to fudge the seam allowance in the back for the zipper if you still needed it.
ReplyDeleteIf you used a knit fabric and an elastic waistband, you might be able to pull them on. You can do an invisible zip with 1/4 seam allowance, just be sure to add some interfacing that goes past the zipper line a little.
ReplyDeleteSigrid had the same idea as me - sew a couple of extra strips to the seam allowances. They will at least provide insurance for inserting the zip.
ReplyDeleteI'm making a dress and just realised I cut the zipper too short so now I can only get it on over my head. This obviously won't help you with your pants though, I just wanted to sympathise! Sigrid's solution sounds like a good one.
ReplyDeleteOh! I've almost done this too. I have pull on pants that I have to do a serious wiggle dance to get into. This is one of the hazards of having a small waist and curvy hips! I say to give Sigrid's suggestion a try!
ReplyDeleteI think that the invisible zip, that would be longer than a fly front zip, may do the trick. You need enough opening to be able to pull the pants over your hips. I've had the same problem with some higher waisted pants, there's a little dance I need to do to get them on!
ReplyDeleteOh, what a rotten piece of luck! I think Sigrid's suggestion is brilliant and will definitely work. Good luck, and please let us know what you did!
ReplyDeleteI was just going to comment that I have no idea, but in a flash of inspiration thought of an exposed zipper - it might be more secure than the invisible zip. I hope you get something to work!
ReplyDeleteI hope you were able to get something to work. I know it's a little late but I thought Maureen's idea was interesting (I thought I added a comment last week! But I sometimes have trouble with blogger comments in Windows Explorer.) Anyway, just wondered how you were getting on. I'd love to see how you solved this, cause it's probably going to happen to us one day!
